A delayed product launch is a potential disaster for most companies, but new product launches are very complicated and require thorough processes and strict control over all elements.

This case study explains how we worked with an electronics company, whose name we have changed to 'Red Crown Electronics' for the sake of confidentiality, to turn around their new product launch which was 6 months behind!

How Could The Product Launch Fall So Behind?

Red Crown's expertise wasn't in manufacturing, although their product was great!

They were working with a Chinese OEM who in turn had a network of sub-suppliers producing components for the final product and, frankly, had put too much trust in the OEM to make everything work.

The main causes of the delay were poor follow-up and management at their Chinese OEM, lack of processes to actually mass-produce the products, and also that the manufacturer wasn't detecting quality issues with components coming in from their sub-suppliers.

How We Turned Around This Delayed Electronics Product Launch

Red Crown were in dire need of professional project management in order to keep their Christmas orders, as their customers were starting to get nervous that they wouldn't be able to fulfill them and could cancel them, crippling the company.

This is where our manufacturing consultants came in, providing project management, boots on the ground with the OEM and wider supply chain to improve and assure quality, and APQP to launch the product correctly.

The Happy Ending

By working with our consultants Red Crown's manufacturing partner in China's production capacity was quadrupled in year one as their processes were improved.

With products now being made in large volumes, the Christmas orders were fulfilled, subsequently saving margin of US$9 million which would otherwise have been lost; a potentially mortal blow to the company's future.

What YOU Will Gain From This Case Study

This case study is a 'behind-the-scenes' look at how we cooperate with a client to manage their new product launch, especially if delays have accrued.

Even if you aren't ready to work with consultants, use our description of the methods and processes that we implemented to help Red Crown dramatically turn around their fortunes to improve your own operations and product launch.

This will be especially beneficial if you are currently buying products from Chinese suppliers or have a joint venture manufacturing business with a local factory, as this was the position that Red Crown was in.

Even if you have your own factory, use our methodology to improve your processes and avoid delays down the line, especially when dealing with sub-suppliers who aren't always directly accountable, unlike your own factory.
