The Cyden Project: Setting Up a Manufacturing Plant Within 8 Months

    Overview

Cyden is an innovative Wales-based company and world leader in IPL technology. It started humbly with four entrepreneurs and has grown into a company with 450 employees, and its products are sold in over 50 markets. In 2019, Cyden received the Queen’s Award for Enterprise for International Trade. Cyden wanted to increase its focus on China and start manufacturing in the largest single market in the world: China.

They saw the opportunity in China after significant success in other countries. Though it had been successfully manufacturing in the UK, the company knew that it did not know the Chinese manufacturing landscape well enough to manufacture in China and searched for a partner to assist them. They already had a solid supply chain in China and needed to find a location that would fit that. The search team read about our new factory setup services and contacted CMC to assist.

    Project Plan

    • Factory Location: China
    • Industry: Medical Devices
    • Duration: 8 Months

    Challenges

16 sites were investigated and researched in the Yangtze River area, and site selection was divided into 2 rounds before a final factory site was selected.

    Solution & Result

We helped them realize that a systematic approach would help us find the best location and guide them through the complex task of setting up a medical device company in China. The process took time and needed a team with the proper local knowledge and skill to find the most advantageous location for our client’s needs.

That team was led by Cindy Jin, CMC’s managing director of China. She used the templates and methodologies we had developed from projects with previous clients to move the process along quickly.
