Manufacturing Support in China During Global COVID-19 Travel Bans

April 2, 2020

Factory closed due to Covid-19

It is clear to everyone now that the restrictions from COVID-19 will not go away anytime in the near future. The US has extended its quarantine to April 30th and most experts believe that it will be extended until May or June. Projecting any further than this is both irresponsible and impossible.

Getting to Production Sites During Coronavirus Global Travel Bans

It is safe to say that international (and often domestic) travel will be near impossible over the next 90 days (and likely many more). Business, of course, does not stop even if travel has and ensuring reliable and quality products are more important than ever as companies work hard to survive the current downturn.

If your organization cannot travel to your production site, then it is vital to have a local independent partner on the ground in the region to do what it cannot. Conference calls, WeChat, and video calls are amazing tools but they cannot take the place of in-person meetings and assistance. The Manufacturing Transformation Group (MTG), comprised of China Manufacturing Consultants (CMC), Manufacturing Transformation Group (MTG), and Middle East Manufacturing Consultants (MMC), provide this service.

Ensuring Products Arrive on Time and Without Quality Problems

Even before COVID-19, monitoring and improving manufacturing operations outside of your country was difficult. What company has not had to deal with language barriers, communication delays, and long trips to solve a problem that starts again as soon as you leave? Most of our clients have suffered this at one time or another.

Now, even this imperfect solution is not feasible. Companies have to hope and pray that their products, sight unseen, will arrive with no issues and that if there are issues, that they can clearly communicate and fix the problem over the phone or email before it happens again.

The MTG Group is the solution to this problem. Our staff is entirely local in each location we operate in. They are our clients’ eyes, ears, and hands when they cannot travel. They can fix the issues that cause manufacturing failures (late delivery, poor quality, rising costs) before products are shipped to you. In these difficult times, it will be one less thing to worry about.

Local Manufacturing Support

The reason that we can do this is simple: All of our Chinese staff, for example, are Chinese nationals with at least a decade of experience in manufacturing both with Chinese and foreign companies. They have been trained by our leadership team on lean methods and process control. Finally, and most importantly, they solve the problems where they happen: on the production floor. This is the model for everywhere we do business.

Furthermore, the local and international nature of our organization allows us to bring our skills throughout the entire supply chain. For example, our Chinese consultants assisting tier 1 and tier 2 suppliers in China can coordinate with our North American consultants to solve problems in your supply chain from the beginning to final assembly.

We can find and fix bottlenecks at any stage of production ensuring smoother operations and minimizing delays. It does not just have to be in North America and China, we are able to do this nearly anywhere in the world. We have consultants ready in China, Taiwan, USA, Mexico, Canada, UAE, Qatar, India, and Europe.

COVID-19 is difficult for all of us. Everyone is struggling to ensure that their organization survives. The best way to do so and thrive during this crisis is to get ahead of your challenges and be ready with a stronger lean company now and in the future. We can help you get there.
